Lavar attended Kingsborough Community College, where he became a Kaplan Leadership Scholar and later transferred to Clark University in Massachusetts, earning his B.A in Political Science. Upon graduating from Clark University, Lavar became a legislative aide to Massachusetts State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez. He is also a Duke University Ralph Bunche Scholar and a teaching faculty member at the Global Citizenship Alliance in Salzburg, Austria.
Lavar later became a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda, East Africa, where he empowered communities around personal leadership, financial literacy, and food security. Lavar Thomas has dedicated the last ten years of his Life to transformational leadership and self-development. He is an inspirational speaker and coach. Born in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York, Lavar’s desire to help individuals discover their purpose and transform communities has taken him worldwide. He is the founder of “Empower for Greatness,” a program that helps aspiring leaders, entrepreneurs, and young professionals overcome fear, cultivate resilience, and develop success habits for their breakthrough. Lavar is passionate about creating a global impact to assist individuals in reaching their personal best. He has worked with organizations, churches, colleges, and youth groups to maximize their capacity through training, keynotes, and facilitated workshops. He is a TEDx speaker and the co-founder of Leaders of the Free World, a non-profit organization that provides leadership development and international experiences to young black men. |
