Have you ever entered a room and it was either frigidly cold or unbearably hot? It is quite an uncomfortable experience when everything you do to combat the reality of your experience isn't enough. Sometimes you may even be dressed for these climatic conditions and unfortunately it only adds to the dilemma. So what do you do when the thermostat within your environment is set either too low or possibly too high? The logical thing to do would be to simply adjust it to your suitability. However to my knowledge and experience thus far, many people aren't even aware that they may have access to their environmental thermostat.
Similar to the typical thermostat that you would find in a room, we have a personal or life thermostat that regulates our level of ambition, dreams, limitations, and desire to create the reality that we would like to experience. What is your life thermostat set to? A question I tend to ponder on periodically when I lose sight of my goals or what I am striving to achieve. As professions, it is easy to become frustrated when your life thermostat is set far below your potential and your output is not to your satisfaction.
The great thing about a life thermostat is the fact that we have the ability to set it. However, way too often we allow past experiences such as upbringing, setbacks, heartbreaks, criticisms, or even past achievements to set our thermostat for us. Sometimes it is difficult to pick up or identify this reality because it has been apart of the person we have grown to become. Both our successes and failures are linked to number we set our life thermostat to. Is your internal environment too cold that you obtain "brain freeze" when it comes to your goals or to lethargic from the scorching heat?
Regaining control over your life thermostat is the key to bridging the gap between person you currently are and the person you aspire to become. In Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Ecker he states, "the only way to permanently change the temperature in the room is to reset the thermostat. The only way to change your level of financial success "permanently" is to reset your financial thermostat." While this isn't about financial success, the same holds true for our life thermostat. Often times we don't realize that our life thermostat can be reset, and as a result, we either under perform or under achieve in our daily life.
So what are some steps we can take to reset our life thermostat and begin the journey to living a purposeful life.
1. Self-awareness is key to processing why we think the thoughts we think and respond the way we do. Through a greater sense of sense, you regain control over your thermostat and strip your environment from its influence over you. 2. In Napoleon Hill's Think And Grow Rich he alludes to the idea of auto suggestion. Auto-suggestion is the ability to send positive messages to your subconscious mind, which helps to reprogram your belief system. This concept is powerful because it allows you to recondition your thoughts and negative inner dialogue. Please see link http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/7-steps-to-positive-self-talk/
3. Developing self confidence is an essential component to resetting your life thermostat. Self confidence provides the belief that you are greater than your circumstances and can rise above temporary defeats.
